I’m a giant fan of the teleread site and urge you to follow it for the latest news on Kindle and all things ebook. David Rothman does a great job of covering all this! Paul Biba also is stellar as the is the Co-Editor.
The latest Kindle is going to be priced at nearly five hundred dollars ($489) and offers a built-in PDF reader according to the release, “New Built-In PDF Reader: Kindle DX features a built-in PDF reader using Adobe Reader Mobile technology for reading professional and personal documents. Like other types of documents on Kindle, customers simply email their PDF format documents to their Kindle email address or move them over using a USB connection.”
Right now, Adobe is dealing with a big problem in terms of its PDF readers – so hopefully that will be addressed in the mobile reader included with the Kindle. Adobe’s PDF readers have a java vulnerability that the company is frantically trying to fix. And according to the Adobe security blog a fix should be released on May 12th if all goes well.
Back to Kindle, I think the cost of the new Kindle is, as my friend Jennifer Robenalt would say, “Ridunculous.” (I don’t know that she would say it about the cost of the Kindle, but I love how she effortlessly uses the term and it’s always spot-on.) So I will say the pricing is “ridunculous.”
It’s more expensive than the iPhone(TM)!
Let’s see how it does in the market, will be interesting to watch.
